Dear Hate

In light of the recent tragedy in Florida, I listened to this song today by Country Music star, Maren Morris, featuring the legendary Vince Gill. It is titled ‘Dear Hate’ and, it is so incredibly fitting, so beautiful, and I wanted to share it. Please click below to listen and view the lyrics.

Dear Hate
I saw you on the news today
Like a shock that takes my breath away
You fall like rain, cover us in drops of pain
I’m afraid that we just might drown.

Dear Hate
Well, you sure are colorblind
Your kiss is the cruelest kind
You could poison any mind
Just look at mine
Don’t know how this world keeps spinning ’round and ’round.

You were there in the garden, like a snake in the grass
I see you in the morning staring through the looking glass
You whisper down through history and echo through these halls
But I hate to tell you, love’s gonna conquer all.

Dear Hate
You were smiling from that Selma bridge
In Dallas, when that bullet hit and Jackie cried
You pulled those towers from the sky
But even on our darkest nights
The world keeps spinning ’round.

You were there in the garden, like a snake in the grass
I see you in the morning staring through the looking glass
You whisper down through history and echo through these halls
But I hate to tell you, love’s gonna conquer all.

Ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh
Ooh ooh ooh

Dear Love
Just when I think you’ve given up
You were there in the garden when I ran from your voice
I hear you every morning through the chaos and the noise
You still whisper down through history and echo through these halls
And tell me love’s gonna conquer all
Gonna conquer all.

This song is so symbolic of the tragedies that occur around our country. With so many mass shootings happening in schools, movie theaters, churches, etc., it is incredibly easy to believe that hate has truly taken over.

It is easy to give up and give in to the snake known as hate. But, we can’t. We can’t let hate win. For one, it’s impossible. As hard as it may seem, we have to believe in love. We have to believe that love will win.

We have to believe that one day, hopefully sooner than later, our leaders will wake up and recognize that gun violence and mental health issues are a very real thing and they need to be taken seriously. My heart can’t help but grieve for the families, not just in Florida, but the families of the victims of all the senseless violence in this country.

America used to be the leader in education, in jobs, in healthcare, and economic equality.  Now, it seems as though we’re the leaders in mass shootings. That is both sad and terrifying. We need less guns, less violence, less bullying, and more Jesus.

Through the mourning and the fear though, I believe that there still is good. There still is kindness, there still is love. And someday, we will start to see love conquer all.

“You gotta get down on your knees, believe
Fold your hands and beg and plead
Keep on praying
You gotta cry, rain tears of pain
Pound the floor and scream His name
‘Cause we’re still worth saving
Can’t go on like this and live like this
We can’t love like this
You can hope the best
Make a wish
The only answer is

We give this world back to God”
